If the prospect of dipping your toes in the sea seems woefully distant, look away now. The delivery of my new La Paire sandals heralded the start of my winter agony (the unshakable feeling of despair when considering that the sun will not grace the skies for at least five months), and I have since been lustily browsing travel websites for a holiday befitting these fine handmade Spanish leather sandals.
I got the lowdown on La Paire from Amy, the Australian-born founder whose roots inspired the business: “I would often go back to Sydney over Christmas and struggle to find affordable, well-made and stylish sandals, so decided to make my own,” she told me.
After training at Prescott & Mackay and the London College of Fashion, Amy did just that, and the resulting brand was launched in April. What does Amy have in the pipeline for La Paire next year? More classics with a bright twist – bold sandals, low wedges and perhaps even some ballet slippers. I have a feeling Amy’s love of candy-coloured footwear may be contagious. If only I had a place in the sun to show them off this winter…
