Beer, Blindness and Bumble & Bumble / I’ve Been…

The end of Summer is always a period of trying to eke out the last of the spirit of merriment. As the nights draw in, I’ve been canvassing London (and Germany) for things to do, places to eat and things to put on that’ll make the dawn of Autumn seem less dismal. Namely, I’ve been…

Mads About Town - Oktoberfest

Indulging… In food at the Punchbowl, Mayfair. The second oldest pub in the area, I love the traditional feel and hearty food. The candlelit recess at the back is ideal for a cosy evening out of the cold.

Overindulging… In Munich. Oktoberfest is not made for abstinence and I therefore tucked into pretzels and beer wholeheartedly during my day there. If you’re going, head over to the tents early enough to secure a space. Dirndls and lederhosen are a must.

Bopeeps Atlantic Set

Surprised… To find an incredibly comfortable pair of matching, lacy underwear. This Atlantic Butterfly Set by Bopeeps London is beautifully made and pretty enough to make you want to show it off. Don’t resist.

Watching… A screen adaptation of Jose Saramago’s brilliant novel Blindness. Though I was somewhat apprehensive at the prospect of Saramago’s idiosyncratic style translating onto the screen, the film was overall a faithful representation, despite missing some of the finer points of the novel.

Overwhelmed… By the sheer size of Sadie Coles’ new HQ on Kingly Street after hurling myself into the opening event out of a soggy London. The current exhibition of Ryan Sullivan’s large-scale paintings is also rather impressive.

Liz Earle at Marcus Lupfer

Discovering… That a really good night out is on my doorstep. I went to see the Sound of Music at The Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and highly recommend the whole experience. On another note, my abject fear of contracting illnesses from others was attenuated by the free-flowing fresh air. A mysophobic’s dream venue.

Coveting… Looks from London Fashion Week. In particular, I enjoyed the low-key and easily achievable hair by Bumble and Bumble for Marques Almeida (achieved using the Surf range) and Liz Earle’s make-up efforts at Marcus Lupfer (using Sheer Skin Tint and Signature Lipstick in Sweet Pea).
