The below is prettier than yesterday’s main photo isn’t it? Probably more what you expect when you come on this site. Good. Lipsticks are pretty things aren’t they? And in the absence of the necessary time and effort required to springify my makeup, I’ve taken the lazy and cheap route of lipstick to brighten up my face. Marvellous, transformative lipstick.
Prepare yourself for a bombardment of photos of yours truly, the reason being twofold: 1) I believe you need to see a lipstick on a face to see how very much it changes the feel of make-up; 2) Lip colours invariably looks different when looking at the bullet to on the lip itself whether due to texture or density of pigment. That said, here are the five that compromise my current lipstick wardrobe:
MAC Lady Danger / Not one for the lipstick-shy, this is a seriously bright nearly matte orangey red that maketh plain make-up come alive. When wearing a colour this intense, make sure you’ve taken down any redness in your skin with foundation/concealer.
Laura Mercier Creme Smooth Lip Colour in Royal Orchid / This pink with a deep lilac undertone has become something of a go-to for meetings – it’s pretty, but not too girly and looks muted and sophisticated. I also like the formula immensely – it is a true lipstick with good colour payoff that doesn’t dry lips out or emphasise cracks.
Ellis Faas Hot Lips in Fluo Pink L404 / Ellis Faas make some of my favourite lip colours thanks to the ease of the sponge applicators that distribute majorly bright, bold shades all over the lips in a jiffy. Couple this hot pink lipstick with mascara, and you’ll have a quick high-octane evening look.
Korres Pomegranate Lip Butter / When a mirror in front of which to apply lipstick isn’t available but you’d like a touch of colour and shine, this lip butter is right on the money. While on money, these really are terrific value at £8 apiece. I’ve been using this pot for months and have barely made a dent in it. As if that weren’t enough, it’s also packed with antioxidants and vitamin e to make your lips healthy and smooth.
Tom Ford Lip Colour Shine in Willfull / While the American spelling of wilful and hefty price tag of Tom Ford’s lipsticks don’t please me, this shiny, true red does bring me considerable joy. This rule is applicable to many of Tom Ford’s wares – expensive, but delightful.
