You know that little black dress Audrey Hepburn wore at the beginning of Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Of course you do. That Givenchy dress is iconic. Me, I wanted the dress, sure. I also really wanted the glasses. And the pretzel, obvs. That pretzel looks mighty good. But mostly, I wanted the glasses.
I’d firmly shelved my desire, expecting that glasses Audrey wore in 1961 were unlikely to be on sale in the present day, but while buying some reading glasses at Oliver Goldsmith in Notting Hill I felt a stir of recognition on seeing these. When I was told they were made to exactly the same specifications as Hepburn’s pair, they shot to the top of my wish list.
The Manhattan by Oliver Goldsmith in dark tortoiseshell with a green lens as worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
This post is therefore two things: first, informative for any of you who would also like to own these glasses as worn by Audrey (the shade you want is tortoiseshell with a green lens). Second, it is written with the earnest hope that a lovely loved one might decide that these would make an excellent Christmas present for me (yes, I said the C word, but we’re almost halfway through the year – the horror). They’d dispel the mean reds for me any day.
