My Face On / MAC Osbourne Collections

MAC: Make-up Artists Cosmetics. The stuff those in the industry cram into their bags for one very simple reason: it works. If a MAC blue eyeshadow promises a Marge Simpson hue, it will not disappoint (and, in fact, the new Simpson collection does indeed include such an eyeshadow, for those of you who are interested in a little Marge chic).

The MAC core range itself infrequently changes, ensuring those of us for whom no lipstick other than Lady Danger will do need ever go without. Other classics hoarded by insiders include Face & Body FoundationRuby Woo lipstick and the MAC make-up brushes (217 is a particular favourite of mine) amongst many, many others.

While MAC make the staples enormously well, they like to periodically add a little thrill in the form of a collaboration. In June, they unveiled an Osbourne collection. My first reaction: ‘eh?’; Sharon and Kelly may wear a lot of the stuff, but I didn’t quite see what they would add to the equation. Then I tried the range. Both of them. Now, I see the Osbournes + MAC was a very good move and can’t stop banging on about the make-up (as those of you who follow me on instagram may have realised).

Let’s disseminate: Sharon’s collection (nine products, housed in red, vampish packaging) is slightly more subdued, designed for the day or those of us who simply can’t get away with hot pink lips while ironing/meeting the boss/schlepping about on the tube.

Kelly’s ten offerings come in lilac packaging and are split between being a little more outlandish – think fuchsia lips and inky black eyeliner – and some more wearable bits that you might slip on to pop out for the milk.Sharon Osbourne for MAC review

In my opinion, Sharon’s collection slightly pips Kelly’s – her Patentpolish Pencils (gloss, colour and liner in delicious shades) and Powerpoint Eye Pencil (classic, classy brown that doth not a Middleton eye maketh) went straight in my handbag and are unlikely to be supplanted in the near future. Kelly’s hero product? The Mineralize Skinfinish Duo: perfect, gently sculpted cheeks in a swirl and swish of a brush.

Sharon Osbourne for MAC. I put this look on when it was extremely hot and asked an obliging friend to take photos towards the end of a party – as you can see, the make-up lasted extremely well and ‘wore’ perfectly.

I wore this look to a daytime event and then added the winged eyeliner and false lashes for a night out. The pink lipstick: so pink. So very pink. It invited a fair few comments – mostly complimentary, though I personally felt it was perhaps a little too bright to be donned for another daytime outing.
