Lust / Two Christmas Make-Up Releases

Tweet | Facebook | Email

Generally speaking, I don’t condone the pre-Halloween Christmas shopping push. It just feels insincere, as if the purveyors of London have collectively decided that their most lucrative month should be extended to ensure maximum profit.

Last week as I walked down Oxford Street I saw the ghostly outline of the Christmas lights looming overhead and felt more than a little angry – I want lights to glitter, baubles to wink and tinsel to glimmer at me promisingly in December. At a push in November. Not earlier.

You can probably imagine my dismay at the annual ‘Christmas in July’ events hosted for journalists in order to ensure December issues can be planned. It’s an extremely odd set up – mince pies and mulled wine served in balmy temperatures, gold packaging shimmering in the bright sunlight. Odd, odd, odd.

I am, however, never one to let principle stand in the way of sharing a bona fide beauty find so am going to waiver my usual embargo on featuring Christmas releases prior to Halloween and introduce two collections that deserve a place in your make-up bag ASAP…

Becca The One Brush

The Collection / A limited edition One Perfecting Brush (£40 here) that has had a gold make-over, a Shimmering Skin Perfector (£30 here) in Pressed Champagne Gold and Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlights Kit (£20 here).

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Spotlight Christmas

My Favourites / Without a shadow of a doubt it’s the mini Shimmering Skin Perfectors. While only one shade (the Champagne Gold one) is a limited edition and therefore novelty, the mini liquid highlighters are the perfect size for my handbag and a great introduction to them for any of you who weren’t convinced by this post to treat yourself to one of these. Becca people – please make these minis a permanent fixture.

Release Date / They’ll be available here any day now…

Guerlain Christmas 2014 Eyeshadows

The Collection / This one’s pretty sizeable. The cohesive theme is the ballet – Jacques Guerlain’s 1937 Coque d’Or fragrance was inspired by his friend Diaghilev, the founder of the Russian ballet, and Guerlain are paying homage with this limited edition collection.

First up are three ballerina bow adorned products – Coque d’Or Perfumed Shimmer Spray, Meteorites Perles d’Etoile and Petrouchka Eye & Blush Palette.

Guerlain Christmas 2014 Lipgloss

In addition to these are several collector’s items inspired by Black Swan:

– Eyes: L’Ecrin 2 Couleurs eyeshadow duos in Cygne Noir (purple and shimmering black) and Cygne Blanc (pale pink and white).

–  Lips: Gloss d’Enfer lip glosses in Rouge Parade (red) and L’oiseau de Feu (clear with gold glitter) and a Rouge G lipstick in Rouge Parade (red).

– Nails: La Laque Couleurs in Coque d’Or (gold) and L’Oiseau de Feu (a gold leaf topcoat).

Guerlain Christmas 2014 Makeup Swatches

My Favourites / This is a hard one to call – I’m quite taken by the L’oeiseau de Feu Gloss d’Enfer (that’s clear lipgloss to you and me) as it is just on the right side of glittery and is also not sticky in the slightest – when on, it feels rather more like a thick lip balm. Also a contender for my top spot is the L’Ecrin 2 Couleurs eyeshadow in Cygne Noir – the shadows are so highly pigmented that you can get a pretty dramatic look quickly and with ease. My winner, however, has got to be the two gold nail polishes. Layered. While I despise nail art with a passion, a little gold foil/glitter always has me in its thrall and these together add a little glamour to nails without looking silly.

Release date / November 2014 here.
