My school uniform comprised an ankle-grazing skirt, shirt in a pastel hue and tweed jacket that made everyone look boxy. ‘Dressing up’ on a Saturday night was therefore the sartorial thrill of the week and formulating the perfect outfit took hours/much, much consideration during Saturday morning English classes. I think there’s probably a huge chunk of Chaucer I missed in order to toss up the pros and cons of pairing my hot pink Carvela sandals with a mini skirt, but you win some, you lose some, eh?
I digress. The whole dressing up on Saturday night thing still massively thrills me and the getting ready process, particularly when shared with friends, is usually a highlight of the evening thanks to the anticipation, the bon homie, and, of course, the using of all the best products.
As last Saturday offered up a night out at a bar with a bunch of school friends who, like me, continue to delight in a little fancy dressing, I decided to indulge my proclivities and wear a dress, heels and a smoky eye. Basically: I went for it. And you know what? I think I had a better night for it. Sense of occasion and all…
