Those of you who follow me on instagram will know that I’m currently in stunning Switzerland on a ski break. While the fresh air, daily sauna sessions and movement has made my skin smoother and more glowing than it’s been in ages, I can’t say the same for my lips; the cold has just rendered them exceedingly dry and ready to crack if pushed.
During the day, I mostly coat them in my usual saviour, By Terry Baume de Rose, but this hasn’t been quite enough to prep them for any fanciness in the form of lipstick in the evening – when free of BTBDR, they just kind of shrivel up as if wearing too small a coat of skin. Enter Givenchy and RMK, who’ve both declared balmy, sheer, juicy washes of colour to be their thing this spring and have therefore released these moisturising colours just in time for winter lips to benefit.
Both lipsticks are customisable – one coat provides a subtle sheen with a hint of colour (think lip balm with the slightest filter), two adds gloss and depth, three and you’re where I like to be: enough colour to pass for lipstick, enough moisture for comfort. In the case of the Givenchy lipstick, the gloss can also be ramped up with each layer – by the third it looks a bit like you’re wearing a touch of lipgloss over a pale colour.
Both formulas comes in a range of different colours but I’m currently firmly in one of my smoky eyes, paler lips grooves and have therefore plumped for RMK’s peachy Irresistible Glow Lips in 03 and soon to drop here Givenchy’s Rouge Interdit Vinyl in 03 Rose Mutin (pink, though not sickly sweet) and the nude Givenchy Rouge Interdit Vinyl in 02 Beige Indecent. A secondary benefit of the Givenchy number? The little loop on the packaging that makes popping the lipstick onto a keyring easy peasy. Well, I never said I didn’t have a flirt with lip colour on the slopes…
