Stop Whatever You’re Doing: The Gwen Stefani X Urban Decay Lipstick Collection Has Dropped

YES, Gwen Stefani & Urban Decay. Yes yes yes to every single one of these lipsticks. Delighted though I was by this palette, the first words out of my mouth when contemplating it were “when’s she going to do lipstick, though?” They were rhetorical: the only person within earshot was my spectacularly disinterested husband who grunted something I suspect meant “shut up good woman and do please stop banging on about make-up.” But I may be reading into things…

Here’s the line up: 8 lipsticks in total varying in finish from the ‘mega matte’ that is 714 to a sheer, buttery Ex-Girlfriend. There are also 6 new 24/7 lip pencils that colour match precisely to 6 of the lipsticks (though they are all standard issue 24/7 creamy matte finishes. This is a good thing – you don’t want a glossy lip pencil under a lipstick). Quick tip: if strapped for cash, just get one of the liners and fill in your whole lip with it then add a balm or gloss to achieve the finish you’d like.

The colours are all, with the notable exception of Ex-Girlfriend, bright and punchy. They are lipsticks that demand confidence or – in my case – lend me it if I’m feeling a bit bedraggled; unkempt hair + tracksuit + bold, bright lip = not a look for the retiring. My postman must think I am a woman of uncommon pizzazz.

Some of the lipsticks have drawn their names from the cannon of No Doubt/Stefani songs, though they lamentably don’t correspond with the hues she’s wearing in the videos. This pained me, though it also gave me a good excuse to indulge in an excessively long No Doubt/Gwen Stefani youTube session, starting with this old classic. I’d strongly suggest you do the same if you’re feeling a little meh…
