What’s New In / Make-Up (The Random Edition)

Tweet | Facebook | Email

In this final make-up update, I’ve grabbed a handful of the best of the rest: an eyeshadow palette, the purple eyeliner that – oddly – just looks great on, a sculpting palette and more. Hunker down and enjoy…

Louise Young Essential Eye Palette

Louise Young Essential Eye Palette / Back when this Becca palette came out, I raved about its ability to create both a subtly-enhanced and mega smokey eye. This Louise Young palette does similar, though the black shade is great for anyone who’s a fan of a flirt with really dark eyes and – rather unusually – the brush is definitely worth keeping.

Kate Moss Sculpting Palette 002 Coral Glow

Rimmel London Sculpting Palette by Kate in 002 Coral Glow / Kate Moss, I bow at your Louboutin-d feet. This palette is a continuation of excellent make-up form on the parts of Rimmel and Kate – use one brush to whizz the darkest shade under cheekbones, dance a whisper of the coral onto apples, and then just sweep the highlighter on tops of cheeks. It won’t give you Mossy cheekbones, but it does look mighty good (and for a mere £4.99 you really can’t go wrong…).

Sleek Cream Contour Kit Review

Sleek Cream Contour Kit in Light / I’m afraid I’m still really not into contouring, despite having been introduced to the benefits. I’m therefore recommending this kit not for contouring but for slightly (and I can’t overemphasise the slightly bit) taking in hollows and lifting high points. Also: it’s a good palette to invest in now if your skin changes hue over the summer months – I intend on using mine as a concealer.

Givenchy Waterproof Kohl

Givenchy Kohl Couture Waterproof in No 6 Purple / The waterproof bit is always agreeable, but what really had my pulse racing when I tried this is how oddly flattering it is. Yep, a line of this coupled with truly black mascara is just a little bit interesting without looking weird or – as my husband put it – ‘like you’ve been punched in the eye.’ Charmer.

Jane Iredale GreatShape Eyebrow Kit

Jane Iredale GreatShape Eyebrow Kit / Let me start this review by saying that the wax ain’t up to much – if your brows are soft and easily-tamed, you’ll be fine. I needed to get out my nuclear-strength RMK number. Once I’d made peace with that, I grew to LOVE this; the powder is just the right cool-toned colour for my brows, the brush isn’t totally crap and handily had a little spoolie on it too, and the palette is thin and lightweight so is a perfect handbag companion.
