Shanghai-based designer Chris Chang clearly likes colour; not only has she chosen a riot of blues and yellows and pinks for the make-up itself, but she’s also packaged her eponymous collection for MAC in silk-screen prints made up of dizzyingly bright patterns.
The Poesia designer’s 14-part collection won’t be for everyone – the yellow and blue lipstick was a big no no for me – but there are some really brilliant buys in there that inject a little brightness into everyday life.
My top pick is the DDDevilish lipstick, which is a seriously bright pink with blue undertones that will make your teeth look whiter as you wear it. It finishes to a creamy matte but could be mixed with balm if you like a hint of pink.
I’m also pretty into the Cream Colour Base in Peony Pavillion. Don’t be put off by the brightness of this one – just mix it with a touch of base or concealer and it shows as just the merest of flushes.
Blue is currently having a moment, though the ABBA blue eyes are definitely not the vibe you want to channel. Instead, opt soft, pillowy cloud of the Pale Pipa eyeshadow coupled with a whole lot of mascara looks great – and won’t look dated.
Finally, if you’re fully averse to colour but still fancy owning a collectable compact, grab the Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Pressed Powder. When dusted on skin alone, it reduces shine (but won’t look chalky). When dabbed on top of foundation, it lightly mattifies (without distorting the colour of the base).
