The Red Lipstick Edit

Tweet | Facebook | Email

Red. Now is the time. And not just because red lipstick just feels festive, but also for what it will do for your face, pulling it out of the puffy, paunchy, sad state it’ll be in by around this time in the year if you’re anything like me.

It also, loathe though I am to travel down the hackneyed ‘day-to-night’ rhetoric, really is the quickest way to dress your face up if you’re heading out and want maximum impact in minimum time.

But which red? And in which finish? In short, my advice would be to do as you usually do, but in red, be it a stain, a matte, or a shine. And this applies to the rest of your face too. Red looks equally as good with a bare face as it does with the addition of highlighter and eyeliner to make it look more properly glam.

One note before you slick yours on and go on your merry way. Once you’ve got your red on, look at the balance of your face. If your eyes don’t disappear when you apply red lipstick, by all means leave them alone. But if they do, and you don’t want them to, add a whisper of liner, an extra smidge of mascara.

I’ve put a few different red lipstick tutorials over on my instagram IGTV channel – just click the ‘IGTV’ circle under my profile to watch them.
